How Verizon 5G Can Help Locate Disaster Victims | Verizon

It’s very difficult to have a guard or a security at every corner. With Kiana secure application we look at the physical location and we look at all the devices and this is used for security and safety as well as proximity services. What you’re looking at is what we call IoP, which is Internet of People. Basically we’re just looking at the count, or the location of those devices. With technology like 5G we can really look at situational awareness in real-time. So if there is an earthquake and the building collapses, first responders want to know where were the people before the earthquake happened and where are they now. Today we see about 2 meter accuracy pinging basically those devices every 3 seconds. With 5G having a very fast upload and download we can do extremely fast. We can get down to sub meter accuracy. Edge computing allows us to now do this calculation on the cameras very quickly and be able to tie this to other cameras to be able detect in a physical location. We are very excited about this because 5G is a new technology for us to be able to extend our solution to take advantage of some of the 5G technology which is pretty fantastic.
