OurLuster shines on us beautifully and nobly. OurLuster It is our milestone. Canoe sprint athlete
Hiroki Honma (28 years old) Lake Kitagata Lake Kitagata is the largest one in the north region, Fukui Prefecture. Canoe sprint races will be held in the lake in the National Sports Festival in 2018. Honma participated in Iwate National Sports Festival last year. He is expected to participate in Ehime National Sports Festival this year and Fukui National Sports Festival next year, too. Canoe sprint athletes are forced to fight against themselves. His way across the lake surface with whole body and soul looks solitary. Whether destroying or making the best use of a canoe is up to himself. His figure offers a glimpse of a stoical characteristic of athletes. I use my arm strength finally but I row by rotating my body basically. Honma, who was born in Shizuoka Prefecture, started canoe sprint since the third grade of elementary school. And then, he entered a canoe-orientated high school in Aichi Prefecture and went to a university in Kagoshima Prefecture. And, two years ago, he came to Awara City to strengthen Fukui’s canoe sprint by a connection. In Awara, the training space is large but everyone didn’t know about canoe sprint. So I think it is very interesting to start from scratch but also it is difficult. Awara is well known for canoe polo but sprint is still developing. So Honma is very much expected to improve sprint but it means there are many problems. Fukui Prefectural Kanazu High School At the high school which Honma works as a teacher, he coaches sprint at its canoe club. Stretch your feet toward more. Good. During club activities, I practice myself and coach too. But coaching part is larger than the practice, so I find the time to practice. As for me, the amount of training has decreased compared to during university days. On the other hand, I came to value the quality of practice and see rowing and technique objectively by coaching students. So I apply such things to myself and I hope it will work even in a less practice time. And I’ll just do my best. Coach and athlete. Doing double duty is not easy. In his first year in Fukui, he fought an inner struggle that he had to coach and do training perfectly. Until Honma came to Fukui, he used to be in the front line as an athlete, now he is at a big turning point. He spends more time to face sprint again not only as a top athlete but also as a coach. If I think about only myself, I cannot concentrate on the students I coach. So I came to think how much I can under the current situation. For example, today I am exhausted from coaching and stop practice here. Now I am able to find compromise and my approach to race has changed compared to during university days. About Mr. Honma, He is an active athlete. So his coaching is easy to understand and reliable. When he is strict with us, he gets angry. But basically, if I ask him anything, he tells me all. Also, he achieved a great result and I am grateful that such an athlete coaches us. I think that I am like a teammate because I still am an active athlete. It is not good as coaching though. We will work as “Team Fukui” until Fukui National Sports Festival. By chance I have been doing canoe longer than they have. Actually, I started canoe because National Sports Festival was held in Shizuoka. So I will be glad if children started because of Fukui National Sports Festival and they will become coaches ten years later. Canoe sprint looks a lonely sport. But Honma had a realization through coaching. Who do you fight for? I felt supported by many coaches as an athlete. Now I am a coach and I found a coach was also supported by various people. so I could give practice environment to them. For that reason, I want to make a lot of efforts for those people. For the moment, interscholastic athletic meet’s canoe race will be held in the Lake Kitagata in 2021. So I feel that Fukui National Sports Festival is not my goal. To become stronger. The paddle he keeps a grip on has power of many people. OurLuster So you will keep on shining.
